During the 14th century, the counts of Armagnac moved their headquarters to Lectoure. A fortified, central and prosperous city were their main elements of choice.
The castle’s west wing, or at least what’s left of it, dominates the region’s valleys.
Position yourselves on the castle’s belvedere, just as the powerful lords did when looking down on the enemy’s battalions.
The belvedere has been remarkably renovated in 2014.
P.S: If you are not too interested in history, you may find several Armagnac producing estates not far from the city. (© Office de Tourisme Gascogne Lomagne)
