This religious building started its construction in the 13th century and finished in the 17th century.
The church Saint Laurent of Fleurance is close to the city-center, the fortified town’s priority was mainly towards the covered market hall and its commerce. As a result, the church was built on a slope. The nave’s flooring will lead you to the sanctuary, and to one of the must-see’s: the 16th century stained-glass windows by Arnaud de Moles.
Here’s a challenge: try to find an interesting representation of the Christ. He is holding a tool that he doesn’t usually hold, nor that you can find in other artworks.
Created in 1505, these three stained-glass windows represent the Old Testament, the New Testament and the Patron Saints. Dedicated to the church of Fleurance, Saint-Laurent was tormented by the romans at the beginning of our era.
How do you handle a man full of Christian faith whilst being a Roman pagan?
To uncover the answer to this question, look at the bottom left of the left stained-glass window. Here’s a clue: it’s a seasonal activity (generally summer) …
Arnaud de Moles’ artwork is recognised for its finesse, light pastel colours, visual techniques and a fresh perspective on religious themes.
During summer, free concerts are organised by the Magen organs, an event not to be missed!
