Five medieval commanderies exist in the Gers, yet only two are listed as Knights Templar, including this one.
Gimbrède brings us back to this well-known history: The Knights Templar.
These “Warrior Monks” wealth, influence and power were most of the reasons of their hearing and were then removed by King Philip of France.
The small village is huddled up to its commandery (Knights Templar since the 6th century, and a hospital from 1312 to 1789), you can notice the use of half-timbered architecture around the main square as well as rampart stone walls.
To visit the commandery, please contact the Tourism Office of Gascogne Lomagne.
